Surrounded by olive trees and the vast rice fields of the Alentejo, Montinhos is a small countryside estate with four accommodations spread across two white houses. The property is part of a landscape that has been in the same family for generations, including rice fields, olive groves, meadows, and cork oak forests.
Montinhos was carefully renovated by the Portuguese architect Pedro Ressano Garcia, who respected the original character of the old farmhouse while creating a calm, contemporary ambiance. Inside, a warm rural style prevails with many natural materials. Lime-washed walls, rustic Alentejo tiles, wooden beams, and natural stone give the interiors an authentic feel. Many materials from the original ruins — such as roof tiles, stones, and beams — were reused. A subtle art collection with works by Portuguese artists adds a personal touch throughout the spaces.
Montinhos offers four accommodations: Casa da Cima, a spacious house with a living room, kitchen, and two bedrooms for 4 people. In addition, there are three double rooms, each with a small kitchenette and a private outdoor area set in a small walled garden — inspired by Persian and Mediterranean patios — with local plants and a peaceful, sheltered atmosphere. From the lounge beds by the swimming pool, you look out over the rice fields while the olive trees provide natural shade. Days unfold slowly here: reading in the sun, wandering through the grounds, or playing a game of pétanque at sunset.
The location also makes Montinhos an ideal base for exploring the Alentejo. The charming town of Alcácer do Sal is nearby, as well as the beaches of the Alentejo coast. In the surrounding area, you will find Roman ruins, small villages, vast natural landscapes, and quiet lakes, while Lisbon is surprisingly close, less than an hour away.
