Perched high above the Sado River and hidden within the ancient castle walls of Alcácer do Sal, Casa da Matriz is an extraordinary design retreat for six guests. A place where architecture, art, history, and nature come together in a remarkable setting. Surrounded by centuries-old olive trees and overlooking the vast rice fields of Alentejo, it feels both peaceful and awe-inspiring.

Designed by the award-winning Portuguese architects of PROMONTORIO, the villa blends effortlessly into its historic surroundings. Clean lines, soft tones, polished concrete floors, and expansive windows create a striking contrast with the centuries-old stone walls. Throughout the house, carefully selected artworks, design objects, rare books, and vintage pieces create a warm and personal atmosphere.

Life here revolves around the generous living space with its fireplace, the impressive library, and the open-plan kitchen where long dinners naturally unfold. The three suites each have their own character and private bathroom, offering views of the town, the courtyard, or the surrounding landscape. Every detail has been designed to inspire comfort, creativity, and relaxation.

Outside, one of the villa’s most spectacular features awaits: a long infinity pool that appears to float above the landscape. Beneath the pergola, leisurely meals stretch into the evening while the scent of olive trees, citrus, and warm earth fills the air. From sunrise to sunset, the views constantly shift in colour and mood.

Less than an hour from Lisbon and just twenty-five minutes from the beaches of Comporta, Casa da Matriz offers the best of both worlds. Explore historic villages, rice fields, wild beaches, and local gastronomy, or simply stay home and enjoy the silence, the views, and the unique atmosphere of this exceptional retreat.
