Perched high in the hills of Serra de Tomar, overlooking the vast Castelo de Bode reservoir, lies Casa Lorena: a remarkable family home for 10 to 12 guests. Surrounded by forest and shimmering water, this is a place to slow down completely, with total privacy and that ever-changing panoramic view as a constant backdrop.

Designed in the 1970s by architect Fernão Simões de Carvalho and lovingly preserved by owner Pedro’s family, the house exudes warmth and authenticity. Inside, it is bright, spacious, and refined: natural materials, wooden ceilings, large windows, and carefully chosen details create an atmosphere of calm and understated elegance. The living room with a fireplace and balcony forms the heart of the house, together with the dining area and kitchen overlooking the lake. There are six bedrooms – including a children’s room – each with views of the garden or the water.

Outdoors, life is pure nature. A heated salt-water pool, generous terraces, the scent of pine and the sound of birds - nothing more. A separate chalet offers space for relaxation, play, or work, while the dedicated yoga room invites quiet morning practice or meditation at sunset.

For those wishing to enrich their stay, Casa Lorena offers a range of experiences: a private chef cooking with local Portuguese flavours, bespoke yoga or wellness sessions, guided excursions, boat trips, and water activities on the lake, or wine tastings with regional producers.

Casa Lorena is a rare find - a home where design, heritage, and nature blend effortlessly. A place to breathe, slow down and savour the simple beauty of Portuguese living.
