The small fishing town of Olhão is situated on the Mediterranean Coast of Southern Portugal. It’s characterised by distinctive, Moorish influenced, Cubist houses in a variety of different colours. One such property is Casa Opala - a traditional townhouse that’s been restored to its former glory. The result of a successful project by two top chefs (who also run an Amsterdam-based business), Casa Opala is now a fully equipped, tastefully decorated holiday home. We love the combination of rugged materials (including wood and concrete), clean lines and soft colours. And, the property’s stunning high ceilings create an extremely spacious effect. With two bedrooms and two bathrooms, Casa Opala is particularly suitable for two couples or one family wishing to holiday together. In addition to the cosy ground floor living room, you’ll want to make full use of the bright, spacious live-in kitchen with terrace. The roof terrace, with plunge pool and stunning views over the historic heart of Olhão, is certainly a welcome bonus!

Olhão and its surroundings offer an authentic glimpse of the real Algarve - historic towns and villages (which are positively bustling, regardless of the time of year), beautiful unspoilt beaches and pleasingly deserted islands. Olhão is a lively town in all seasons, where you can enjoy a gentle morning stroll to the bakers for freshly baked bread or a delicious dinner on the promenade, with its superb choice of restaurants.

Richard and Matthias fell in love with Olhão from the very first morning they woke up there, surrounded by blue skies, small whitewashed houses and the endless beaches of the Algarve. What followed was the beginning of Casa Opala, shaped by their appreciation for the local culture, good food and the relaxed rhythm of Portuguese coastal life. Casa Opala is their way of sharing this atmosphere with others, a place where every guest can feel at home.

Layout of Casa Opala (80m2 house and 50m2 terrace):

Ground floor

A traditional, green shuttered door opens from the narrow street into a cosy living room, furnished with two comfortable sofas (which can optionally be arranged as extra beds for an additional fee).

The living room leads to two bedrooms, both equipped with an extremely comfortable (luxury hotel standard) bed. Opaque windows fitted with shutters present guests with the choice of a bright or darkened room.
