This traditional and stylish stone build farmhouse for 4 persons has been transformed by architect-builder Fred and textile designer Nele into a extraordinary residence with a minimalistic and understated style. The couple lives with their son and dog on the premises of Monte das Marés. The house is the ideal place to fully unwind, walk on the beautiful Portugese countryside and discover the authentic villages in the area.

Monte das Marés is characterized by the use of local materials without losing its original charm such as the thick limewash paint walls, the traditional terra cotta tiles and the local stone used for kitchen top and bathrooms. The interior of the guesthouse is raw, modern, comfortable and combines old and new. You will find a unique mix of contemporary furniture, ethnic elements and handcrafted pieces.

There are 2 bedrooms with spacious ensuite bathrooms, making the house perfect for a family or 2 couples. Both bathrooms have a toilet, walk-in shower and beautiful stone sink. The entrance leads into the open-plan living room with original high ceiling – marked by a sitting and dining area with fully equipped kitchen, underfloor heating and fire place. Further on you will find the dining table where you can dine, but you will probably choose to dine on the spacious roof terrace.  

Monte das Marés is situated 250 metres above sea level, which gives you a beautiful view over the green hills and the Atlantic Ocean in the distance. A lush 2.5 hectare garden with centuries-old olive trees, beautiful plants and flowers surrounds the house. Here, you can enjoy the exceptional climate of the Algarve all day long. Relax on the sun loungers or read a book in the hammock. The impressive roof terrace offers 360-degree views and allows you to enjoy an aperitif in the shade of the pergola or dine during the sunset. Alternate relaxing days around the house with a visit to one of the traditional and cosy cities in the area, such as Loulé, Tavira, Olhão or drive to the beautiful coastline for the breathtaking beaches.
