In the rolling countryside of rural Spain lies Riurau de Maria, an authentic Spanish house with private pool for 8 people. The old building has been transformed by architect Marta Woodward into a beautiful residence with a spacious and minimalist interior, where you will be surrounded by rugged nature, charming villages and the many beautiful beaches of the Costa Blanca.
Riurau de Maria has been carefully restored with the characteristic whitewashed walls on the outside and the spacious living areas and stylish interior inside. The house is tastefully decorated in every detail with custom-made furniture, old terracotta pots and beautiful natural materials. The three bedrooms can accommodate eight people in total and each has an ensuite bathroom. Each of the bedrooms faces the pool and can only be reached via a sperate entrance. The sunlit living room with a cosy fireplace is ideal for cold evenings and the huge windows overlook the lovely garden with the swimming pool. The modern kitchen is fully equipped for preparing delicious meals, which can then be eaten on the al-fresco terrace overlooking the green valley and the mountains beyond.
Once outside, you can explore the inviting lounge areas in the garden, take a dip in the pool or just dream away under the Spanish sun. If you prefer to lie on the beach, within 30 minutes you can have your feet in the sand at one of the many beaches on the Costa Blanca.
All accommodations in our unique collection meet our high standards in quality, comfort, style and setting. We visit every place, meet the owners and explore the area, so we are sure that you will have a great holiday here!

Riurau de Maria is located on the Costa Blanca, some 20 kilometres from the coast. The house is situated in the Vall de Pop, nowadays also called the Jalón Valley, with vineyards, olive, citrus and almond trees, sandwiched between several mountain ranges. Near the holiday home you will find the cosy village of Parcent, where you will find several restaurants and some small shops. Near Parcent you will find the larger towns of Orba (5 km), situated on the banks of the Gorgos river, and Jalón (6,5 km), the capital of this valley where a weekly farmers' market and flea market are held. There are also several vineyards in this valley, where you can go for a tour and a wine tasting.
The coastal towns of the Costa Blanca are also easy to reach. For example, drive to Benissa (15 km) a small, typical Spanish village with many local festivals and traditions throughout the year. It has some nice terraces and a beautiful cathedral and there is a market every Saturday. Drive to Moraira (25 km), a not so touristic village with several restaurants, bars and shops or Altea (30 km), a charming fishing village with a cosy harbour and small streets full of traditional white houses. Altea also offers beaches and a nice boulevard with cafes and restaurants for a drink or a snack.
Take a short drive to the large town of Calpe (21 km). Here it can be quite busy in the summer, but there are many shops, bars, beach clubs and restaurants. Here you will also find the rock Peñón d'Ifach. A beautiful tour that goes through a tunnel through the rock and comes out (after a more or less difficult climb) on the top with a height of 330 metres rewards you with impressive views.
Furthermore, there are a few beautiful bays with sandy beaches in the area where you can relax and swim all day. For example, drive to the beach Cala Baladrar (22 km), to the bay Cala Llobella (24 km) or to Caleta de l'Advocat (24 km), where a small sandy beach is located behind the high cliffs. Or drive to the beach of El Portet (28 km), the bay with beautiful clear water. In the surrounding mountains, beautiful walks or mountain bike tours can be made. In the interior of this region, there are also several waterfalls.
For a sportive holiday, besides cycling and walking in the beautiful nature, horse riding and surfing are also possible. The Ifach golf course (23 km) is also 35 minutes' drive away and you can also play tennis here.
A 'riurau' is the name given to buildings typical of this region of Spain, which were used from the early 18th century until the mid 20th century to dry grapes and make sultanas. You can still find some tributes to this history, such as the original drying oven in the garden and the bamboo screens on which grapes used to be dried. This authentic 'riurau' has been carefully renovated into a holiday home, whereby the original architecture is complemented by a contemporary, tasteful interior.
