The Betterheim is located in the small town of Kittlitz in the middle of the northern German Lauenburg Lake District, a magical region with no less than 40 lakes, impressive forests, and picturesque small towns.

This former village school was radically renovated by Frederike (interior designer) and her husband Axel using only ecological building materials. Under the old thatched roof, you will now find three modern and stylish holiday apartments with a sustainable design. For example, the walls are plastered with clay and painted with ecological wall paints, and the furniture and accessories (from HKliving) are made of natural and plastic-free materials, just like the linen bedding and Kushel towels. Soft-colored tiles and black details in the bathroom provide a chic touch, and beautiful boho blankets and lovingly chosen accessories complete the concept. If you would hope to bring everything home with you, it's possible: furniture, crockery, and art can all be bought on-site.

The apartments each have an open-plan living with a well-equipped and high-quality kitchen (made of real wood), two bedrooms - for up to 4 people - and a private terrace. The house stands in a large garden with plenty of space for children who are very welcome here. All around you is pure nature and beautiful lakes (such as the Schaalsee) for relaxing, walking, cycling, and water sports. And if you want to spend a day in the city, you can quickly reach the beautiful cities of Lübeck and Hamburg.

A sustainable and stylish vacation oasis in a former school building for 4 p

The Betterheim has three apartments, each for max. four people. The apartments are primarily plastic-free and decorated with attention to detail and sustainable brands. For example, the furniture & accessories from HK Living, towels from Kushel, linen from Linenbundle, and cleaning products from Everdrop.

Each apartment has an open-plan living with a sitting area, dining table, and a well-equipped quality kitchen. In addition, they have two separate bedrooms, a bathroom, and a private outdoor area (terrace or garden) with a table and chairs. Apartment 2 has a bathtub with a shower, and apartments 3 + 4 share a large terrace. The house has a large garden where children can play.

On request you can rent an Issimo e-bike and a pick-up/drop-off service from the train station Ratzeburg is also possible for guests arriving by public transport.
Sustainable living workshops, team-building seminars, and yoga retreats can also be booked.

Apartment 2 | 4 people | Ground floor

  • A bathroom with a bath with shower, sink, and toilet

Apartment 3 | 4 people | Upper floor

  • Spacious living/dining area with sofa, reading area with armchair and dining table
  • High-quality kitchen with oven, dishwasher, fridge/freezer and hob
  • Two bright bedrooms, each with a double bed
  • An ensuite bathroom with a shower, sink, and toilet
  • Shared terrace (with apartment 4) next to the garden with dining table and (lounge) chairs

Apartment 4 | 4 people | Upper floor

  • Spacious living/dining area with sofa and dining table
  • Open and fully equipped kitchen with oven, dishwasher, fridge/freezer, and hob
  • Two bright bedrooms, each with a double bed (note: there is a sloping roof)
  • A bathroom with a shower, sink, and toilet
