Vitarel | Beautifully renovated farmhouse with contemporary design in the French Quercy region

Hidden deep in the southwestern French countryside, in the tranquil Quercy region, surrounded by pretty gardens and an olive grove, you will find Vitarel. This old family farm was - under the guidance of American industrial designer Max Burton and architect Quinlin Messenger and together with a team of local craftsmen - modernized with smart, sustainable technologies. LED lighting and appliances turn off when not in use, rainwater fills underground reservoirs for irrigation and the hi-tech pool is covered with an innovative shade structure with solar panels that supply all the necessary energy to the entire building.
Yet, the sustainable character of the house has not detracted from its beauty! Behind the classic country facade with blue shutters, you will be surprised by a contemporary design with modern vintage mid-century furniture and eye-catching 20th-century works of art, which complement the original furniture, mostly of own design.
Vitarel consists of four independent houses - La Maison, L'Atelier, Le Cottage, and Le Jardin Suite - each with a complete kitchen, bedroom(s), bathroom, and technological feats. Old French doors have been given a makeover with chic black frames and generous windows flood the rooms with natural light, making them intimate and warm.
Outside you will find several terraces with a gorgeous view of the valley, a manicured green lawn, and a fire pit for cozy evenings together when the garden is beautifully lit. At the heated swimming pool - nestled into a hill - you can relax on the loungers after a day of sightseeing in the region. Quercy is known for its medieval villages, vineyards, and ancient castles, a perfect area to enjoy slow life. But you can also go hiking in the nearby natural parks, kayak on the River Lot and try regional specialties at the local farmers' markets and bistros.
