Costa Blanca through the eyes of Kyo
Kyo’s very first work trip for Nice2stay took her to the Costa Blanca — a short but memorable journey alongside a colleague, where the packed schedule was quickly overshadowed by the lasting impression the region left on her.
What began as a professional mission to visit new properties and meet their owners soon evolved into a deep appreciation for this multifaceted region. From golden beaches to rugged inland hills, the Costa Blanca turned out to be much more than a sunny holiday destination.
“I thought I knew the Costa Blanca from photos – white sands, turquoise waters, sun-drenched seaside towns. But what I discovered was more layered, more profound. Here, you’ll find both stillness and vibrancy, simplicity and refinement.”
During that first trip, Kyo stayed at the elegant Riu Blanc — a place that, much like the region itself, embodies a sense of calm and understated style. Days were spent exploring — from the picture-perfect coves around Jávea to the charming inland villages — and evenings ended under starry skies, reflecting on the day over a glass of local wine.
Kyo’s favourite places in the Costa Blanca
-
Jávea (Xàbia)
A town with two faces: a historic centre full of character and a lively bay where the Mediterranean lifestyle unfolds. Wander through the market, dive into the sea at Cala Blanca, or dine with a view of the iconic Montgó mountain. -
Dénia
Where culture, beach life and gastronomy come together. Kyo was struck by the effortless blend of a working fishing port, buzzing tapas bars and stylish boutiques — not to mention the impressive hilltop castle overlooking the town and sea. -
Altea
Postcard-perfect, with whitewashed houses, steep alleyways and a church crowned by its famous blue dome. Altea exudes a bohemian charm that attracts both artists and slow-paced travellers. -
Benissa
A hidden gem. Authentic, with traditional streets and a wild, rocky coastline dotted with secluded coves. Ideal for those looking to experience the raw, unfiltered side of Spain.
Why the Costa Blanca keeps surprising
Most people think of the Costa Blanca as a classic sun-and-sea destination — and rightly so. It offers miles of sandy beaches and intimate calas where all you’ll hear is the sound of the waves.
But what truly sets it apart is the contrast.
Just a short drive from the coast, the landscape shifts to rolling hills blanketed with citrus and olive groves. Tiny villages nestle into the hillsides, and at local markets, you can taste the richness of the region — juicy oranges, sharp cheeses, fragrant herbs.
Here, you can hike in nature parks like the Sierra de Bernia, cycle along coastal paths or explore the peaceful Jalón Valley — a haven for those who love being outdoors without the crowds.
And then there’s the food. From rice dishes like arroz a banda, to freshly caught squid and the sparkling Agua de Valencia, the Costa Blanca is a treat for food lovers.

Kyo’s tips for experiencing the Costa Blanca
-
Venture inland
Rent a car and let the road guide you to villages where time seems to stand still. It’s here you’ll discover the Costa Blanca’s lesser-known charms. -
Eat like a local
Skip the tourist menus and seek out markets or that buzzing terrace where only Spanish is spoken — the flavours will speak for themselves. -
Hike in the mountains
The Sierra de Bernia offers spectacular views and peaceful trails — perfect for slowing down and connecting with nature. -
Cycle through the Jalón Valley
For the sporty and the romantic alike. Ride through blossoming groves and sleepy villages at your own pace. -
Swim in hidden coves
Cala Portitxol is a gem: turquoise water, white rocks, and the feeling of having the place all to yourself. -
Enjoy the best of both worlds
Where else can you hike through the hills in the morning and stretch out on the beach by afternoon? That’s the magic of the Costa Blanca.
Final thoughts
The Costa Blanca defies clichés. Yes, there’s sun and sea — but also tranquillity, authenticity and unexpected depth.
Whether you’re lounging on the beach or waking up in a hillside villa with valley views, life here feels a little lighter.
“It’s a region that keeps on giving. Every time I return, I discover something new — yet it always feels familiar.”
I invite you to experience the Costa Blanca – through my eyes, and at your own pace.
