Marché Provençal: The best markets on the Côte d’Azur (and what to buy there)

In the South of France, the day begins at the market. Beneath plane trees, between woven baskets and fragrant stalls, where locals pick out their vegetables and you might just stumble upon the best tomme de brebis or lavender honey you’ve ever tasted.

Here are our favorite Provençal markets along the Côte d’Azur—perfect for those who love cooking in their holiday home's outdoor kitchen or putting together a beachside lunch.

Marché d’Antibes – Old-World & Authentic

Every morning on the Cours Masséna, you'll find an intimate covered market brimming with fresh fish, local cheeses, and sun-ripened vegetables. The smells are intense, the atmosphere warm and welcoming.

Don’t miss: Artichokes, black olives, and socca-to-go from the corner stall.

Marché de Saint-Tropez – Chic & Charming

On Tuesdays and Saturdays, the Place des Lices transforms into a vibrant festival of herbs, vintage treasures, linen dresses, soaps, cheeses, and ready-made picnic bites. A mix of locals, Parisian foodies, and travelers with great taste.

Perfect for: A spontaneous picnic in the shade of the marina.

Marché Forville – Cannes

Forget the red carpet—the real stars are in the baskets: white peaches, lavender bundles, anchovies from Collioure. This covered market (open daily except Mondays) is beloved by chefs throughout the region.

Our favorite: A slice of goat cheese with rosemary, warm baguette, and a bottle of Bandol rosé.

Marché de Nice (Cours Saleya) – Iconic & Lively

Tucked between the pastel façades of Vieux-Nice, this famous market bursts with flowers, fruit, and fragrant herbs competing for your attention. Yes, it’s busy—but the energy is delightful. Go early, and start your day with an espresso and croissant at one of the cafés on the edge.

Marché de Vence – Small & Local

On Wednesdays and Saturdays, the medieval square of Vence becomes a calm oasis of taste and color. No queues, just fresh apricots, mountain honey, and handmade tapenade. Perfect for lovers of slow shopping.

No market morning is complete without assembling your own apéro: olives, cheese, crusty bread, seasonal fruit, and a bottle of local wine. Then back to your Nice2stay accommodation, feet up, and enjoy the simple luxury of the Côte d’Azur.
