Bed & Breakfast Vecchi Maestri is owned by Els van Doorn-Ligterink (51) and Peter van Doorn (54). We live on-site.
In 2022, we emigrated to Italy. Peter was a firefighter with the Haaglanden safety region, and Els worked as a policy advisor for the Schiphol fire department. We love sports, walking, running, cooking, and enjoying good food. Additionally, we have a passion for interior design, modern furniture, and the art of the old masters. Our red cat, Rosso, completes the picture.
In 2014, we visited several houses, but we fell in love with an old village school in Le Marche immediately. The view over the rolling hills, with villages in the distance, was breathtaking. The property itself, with its high ceilings and large windows, left a lasting impression. We made an offer and developed a long-term plan for renovation and emigration. Our dream was to be financially independent by 2022 and move to Italy. Each year, during our vacations, we worked hard to realize this house and our guest accommodations. Now, we live in a separate part of the property.
A contractor handled the major projects, such as the new roof, windows, and swimming pool. We laid the plumbing ourselves, insulated the walls, installed underfloor heating, and painted. It was an intensive process, but we are proud of the result.
The view over the hills, the beautiful sunrises and sunsets in every season—we fall in love with it anew every day.
The interior features sleek modern design from Dutch and Italian brands. Large replicas of artworks by old masters, such as Rembrandt and Van Gogh, create a lovely contrast with the modern furniture and give the space a warm, cozy atmosphere.
The central hallway at the entrance for guests, with a large family table and a nearly life-sized replica of The Night Watch, is one of our favorite spots.
The location offers a fantastic panoramic view over the hills and is also easily accessible. There’s a restaurant within walking distance and several more within a few kilometers. The sea and mountains are just half an hour away.
We have 22 solar panels and an underground rainwater tank to save water and energy. There’s a heat pump, and all lighting is LED. Additionally, we have a charging station for electric cars.
We enjoy the contact with our guests and their enthusiastic reactions to the interior, the view, and our breakfast.
Upon arrival, guests are overwhelmed by the spectacular view. The hills, villages, and changing colors of the landscape are captivating. Inside, they are surprised by a modern and stylish interior. Every morning, we serve a fresh breakfast in the outdoor kitchen by the pool, with products from our own garden. Guests can relax on the sun terrace or use the fitness room. The garden is filled with fruit trees, flowers, and ornamental grasses, along with a vegetable garden for fresh produce and herbs. Peace is guaranteed, as we have only two apartments, each accommodating a maximum of two guests. The light-filled apartments, furnished with designer furniture and large windows offering stunning views, exude space and luxury. The high ceilings and oversized artworks create a generous feel throughout. The stylish bathroom features a walk-in shower, and the living area includes a dining area with a smart TV and a kitchenette with a dishwasher for extra comfort. The apartments are equipped with air conditioning, screens, and shutters to ensure guests sleep in peace and coolness.
We offer a small-scale, luxurious stay for up to four guests, exclusively for adults. The combination of art, design, and high ceilings creates a unique atmosphere that can’t be found anywhere else.
