Before we dive into the details, could you briefly introduce yourself?

I’m Sabine, 44 years old, and I work for myself as an interior designer and essence coach. My husband Jurriaan is also 44 and works as an entrepreneur in the IT sector. Our sons, Vic and Faas, are 14 and 13 years old, and we live just outside Groningen in the Netherlands.

We’d love to share a bit more about you as a person with our guests. Would you like to tell us more about yourself?

We love traveling, football, playing padel, and doing DIY projects. We've been in love with Italy for years – the language, the people, and of course, the food.

When and how did the accommodation come into your life, and what motivated you to make it part of your journey?

We were looking for a renovation project and visited several regions. Through a friend, we ended up in this valley. This house – especially the location and the view – felt instantly right. It’s hard to put into words, but we both felt it the moment we arrived. Unfortunately, at the time, the price was out of reach for us. Six months later, the owners were eager to sell and we were able to negotiate. The view, the peace, the authenticity, the tiny hamlet of just seven houses – and still having a lively village nearby – made it the perfect place for us. We didn’t search long; when it feels right, you just know.

Can you tell us more about the process of renovating and decorating your accommodation?

We thought we’d renovate everything within a year, but of course – in true Italian style – it took longer. Over the past three years, we've been busy renovating and doing a lot ourselves. The old farmhouse is 400 years old and filled with authentic details I wanted to preserve. The ground floor, where the livestock used to be kept, was opened up by our contractor. We searched for unique elements like handmade terracotta tiles from Pisa and pieces from Italian thrift shops. I love blending old and new, and it’s very important to us that the house retains its soul.

What makes your accommodation truly special to you? Are there any particular memories or moments that make it extra meaningful?

The original fireplace from the 1600s has been restored on the first floor – that’s where the residents used to cook. We reused as many old doors and materials as we could. It brings us so much peace to walk into the garden in the morning with a cup of coffee and simply stare out at the village and valley while listening to the birds. That feeling is worth more to us than the house itself.

How would you describe the atmosphere and interior style of your accommodation?

A modernized old farmhouse with authentic details. A mix of Italian charm and Northern European influences. It’s cozy and warm – that’s what our guests always say.

Which part of your accommodation is your favorite, and why?

The garden and the view. From the pool, you look out over the olive grove and the little village.

What makes the location of your accommodation unique or special?

We have total privacy and wide-open views, but at the same time, we’re part of a little hamlet where we have great relationships with our neighbors. Every time we arrive, there’s something delicious waiting for us – and for our guests too. We find it very important to connect with the locals. It helps us learn the language faster and makes us feel part of the community. We’ve been welcomed with open arms!

Are there any sustainable or eco-friendly practices at your accommodation that you’re proud of?

We’ve reused many materials and sourced most of our furniture and items locally or second-hand. Our next goal: solar panels!

What inspired or motivated you to rent out your property to guests?

Apart from the fact that the costs have added up and we still owe my mother some money [laughs], it’s also just a nice idea that more people get to enjoy this place. We like the thought of the house being alive and in use.

Can you give us a vivid description of the experience guests can expect during their stay?

An authentic Italian experience in a lesser-known part of Tuscany. A peaceful valley with all the amenities at the house and in the garden, and just a 5-minute drive away – a lively village filled with restaurants, bars, gelaterias, and even a game of football on the local field.

In what ways does your accommodation stand out from others? What unique features make it an unforgettable experience for guests?

It’s decorated with an eye for detail, and the ability to completely unwind and daydream in this valley makes you feel worlds away from your everyday life. The house can accommodate eight adults and six children, making it perfect for multiple families or a group of friends. And with younger children, you can easily spend the whole day just enjoying the pool.

What’s the nicest compliment you’ve received from a guest?

“When you’re here, it feels like you’ve stepped into an Italian movie. Everything just fits.”

What do you hope guests will take away or remember most from their stay?

A warm feeling of welcome and comfort.

Do you have any recommendations for guests to get the most out of their holiday?

Have a caffè al bar like the Italians do, at La Perla or bar/alimentari Ceccarelli. The best pasta can be found at Da Muzzicone, and top off your tasting experience with a delicious cut of meat. Try the best Tuscan schiacciata at wine bar La Piccina – naturally, with a good glass of wine. Take an early morning walk through the valley and practice your Italian with our friendly neighbors in Ferioli. There’s delicious food on every corner, and the train will have you in Arezzo, Florence, or even Rome in no time.
