Casa Maia forms part of a beautifully restored country home, set in a verdant valley, just ten minutes from the charming town of Ronda and only one hour’s drive from the beach. English owner, Gabriella, lives in the west wing of the house, along with her husband and two children.

Casa Maia comprises the entire east wing of the property and enjoys total privacy both inside and outside on the private terrace. This cosy family holiday home boasts a private entrance, three bedrooms, living room, kitchen and games room complete with billiards table. The interior is light and tasteful - beautiful finishing touches, such as stunning fireplaces, calming olive green walls, rustic stone floors, authentic tiles and paintings created by the owner herself, make for a truly inspiring environment.

It’s situated on 5 hectares of private land, which has been carefully transformed into a vast, lush, romantic garden brimming with flowers, small paths and seating areas that you could quite happily get lost in. At the back of the garden is a large (fenced) swimming pool area with sun loungers, surrounded by fragrant lavender and lilies. Although the swimming pool is shared with Gabriella and her family, for the most part you’ll enjoy exclusive use. And, with so much space in which to play, and plenty of toys and games, including billiards and badminton, the garden is an absolute paradise for children.

All in all, the perfect holiday home for a family or couples who wish to enjoy tranquil, verdant surroundings and cultural excursions within the area.

The interior is light and tasteful with beautiful finishing touches

Characterful holiday cottage, Casa Maia, is located just outside the charming village of Arriate, in a blissfully rural setting. Forming part of La Alcantarilla, the cottage is nestled in some 5 hectares of private grounds that incorporates pretty terraces, flowers, orchards and, of course, a superb swimming pool. At Casa Maia guests can soak up the atmosphere of an ancient Spanish farmhouse in total comfort. La Alcantarilla consists of two sections - an east and west wing. Casa Maia forms the east wing of the property.

West:

This part of the holiday home is called Casa Maia, and is rented throughout the year. Although the owners live in the east wing, the entire property may also be rented as LaAlcantarilla in high season.

Ground floor:

  • Casa Maia boasts a private entrance via a large wooden gate.
  • The entrance leads directly into a spacious room, housing both a billiard and a dining table. Doors open out onto a south facing patio terrace (adjacent to the owners terrace) and an additional terrace on the eastern side of the property (a completely private terrace).
  • The cosy living room, complete with wood burning stove and two three-seater sofas and an armchair, offers ample seating.
  • There’s also a stereo system that enables guests to listen to their own music.
  • The characterful kitchen-diner is fully equipped with all of the usual appliances and a table for six.

Upper floor:

  • Although the upstairs space is somewhat limited, it’s perfectly suitable for families with children.
  • A bedroom with double bed (150 cm) and balcony doors that overlook the south side of the terrace.
  • A bedroom with two single beds.
  • A third bedroom with a narrow double bed (135 cm).
  • Each bedroom is furnished with a wardrobe, chair and mirrors.
  • A bathroom with aqua blue tiles, toilet, shower bath and marble wash basin

The entire holiday home benefits from double-glazing, central heating and several fireplaces, making holidays in the cooler months perfectly feasible. The original thick stone walls also ensure that the holiday home remains pleasantly cool throughout the summer.

Outside:

The pièce de résistance has simply got to be the generous outdoor space. Doors open out onto large terraces paved with original cobblestones, and several different seating areas thoughtfully positioned under the natural shade of the wisteria covered pergola. Walled patios, a grass lawn, wild flowerbeds, lavender, lilies and numerous fruit trees all set the scene for at least three separate al fresco dining areas, whilst in the evening, candles, solar lanterns and Moroccan lamps gently illuminate the romantic setting.

Garden:

  • A stone terrace to the south side of the holiday home, with seating area overlooking the delightful garden.
  • Doors from the living room open out onto a generous private terrace complete with dining table and a relaxing lounge area crammed with cushions.
  • Countless species of flowers, plants and trees, including a palm tree, olive trees, fig trees, rose gardens and daisies etc.
  • A lovely path winds through the garden and past the orchard to the swimming pool (a gentle stroll of no more than a few minutes).
  • Saltwater swimming pool (securely fenced) of 11x3.5 metres (shared with the owner and her family).
  • Play area for little ones (swing, slide, toys), in addition to a badminton net for more active guests.
  • To the rear of the garden is a pond, as well as the remains of a Moorish aqueduct.
