Situated by the picturesque village of Thorpeness in Suffolk, Dune House enjoys an idyllic and enviable seaside location nestled amongst rolling dunes. The house, designed by the Norwegian architectural firm Jarmund/Vigsnæs, is an architectural gem. A unique mansard roof covers the upper floor with dark-stained wood, which in turn rests on the lower floor, which is made entirely of glass. Inside, the style is modern with polished floors and contemporary furniture combined with large wooden surfaces that make it homely and warm.

The house has an open-plan living room with a large kitchen, a lounge area with a fireplace and large sliding doors, as well as a small guest room. The upper floor includes a library with a terrace and four wood-lined bedrooms, each with a free-standing bath and an en-suite bathroom. The windows are placed in such a way that you can enjoy fantastic views of the countryside and the sea from both the bed and the bath.

When you walk out of the garden gate you step directly on the beach. You can swim here, jog along the beach or just drink a cup of coffee on the outdoors sunken terrace of the house while overlooking the water. Local seafood is available nearby for supper and when you don't feel like cooking, head to one of the many renowned restaurants in nearby Aldeburgh. Besides the beach, Thorpeness has a pretty lake ('Maere') for water sports and you will find unspoiled nature areas nearby for walking or cycling.

Dune House is in an awe-inspiring location right on the beach. The house is remarkable and spacious and houses many inviting places to enjoy the undisturbed views of the sea.

Layout Dune House | 9 people | 264m2

Ground floor:

  • Open-plan living room with kitchen with a dining table, sitting area with several sofas, and a wood stove.
  • The kitchen is fully equipped with all facilities you might need to prepare a meal, including a convection oven, combination microwave, induction hob, fridge, freezer, dishwasher, kettle, toaster, washing machine, and dryer. In addition, you will find David Mellor (DM) kitchen knives, cutting boards, sieves and colanders, cooking utensils, a range of DM saucepans (suitable for the induction hob), food blender, scales, mixing bowls, a rolling pin, glassware (cups, wine glasses, champagne glasses), DM cutlery (including children's cutlery), a teapot and mugs. Finally, there are two cafetières for filter coffee and a Nespresso machine.
  • A (guest) room with a queen-size bed and a private shower and toilet.

First floor:

  • A staircase leads to a library room with access to a small semi-enclosed outdoor terrace
  • Next to the library room are four double bedrooms, all with a bathtub in the room, as well as an ensuite bathroom with shower and toilet.
  • In two bedrooms you will find super-king size beds that can also be twinned.
