Read on to discover what makes this unique place so special!
Our accommodation is called Domaine Villoire.
In 2021, we, Esther and Kees, fell in love with a fortified farmhouse in the beautiful countryside of Cassagnes, located between Bordeaux and Toulouse. That same year, a special one for us as we also got married, we sold our homes and emigrated to southern France. The property and its outbuildings have since been beautifully renovated with local artisans, keeping style and authenticity in mind. It was an enormous challenge but also an incredible adventure! We’ve loved building our B&B, which now includes four luxurious rooms, a pool, terraces, a terrain de pétanque, and communal dining areas. Meeting guests and sharing their joy makes this life truly fulfilling. We adore the peaceful countryside lifestyle, surrounded by space, friendly people, and nature—it feels like home.
We are both outdoor enthusiasts, and with 12 hectares of land, there’s always something to do. Kees handles the major tasks like mowing and pruning, while I, Esther, enjoy gardening and focus on plants, flowers, and the vegetable garden. We also have three dogs that need attention. I love hiking and use my walks to discover new routes for guests. We have two grown-up children living in the Netherlands who love visiting us. Summers are busy with hosting, from cleaning to preparing breakfast and tables d’hôtes. In winter, there’s more time to enjoy hobbies like reading, listening to music, decorating the house, and exploring charming villages or cultural spots. We’re happy to share travel tips with guests for road trips in the region.
When Kees and I met in 2018, we both wanted a fresh start. After selling our houses, we initially looked for a place in the Netherlands. But during a holiday in France, our hearts turned toward moving here. Finding this specific farmhouse in Cassagnes is an almost unbelievable story, which I’ve shared in a blog on our website: "An Unbelievable but True Story!"
The property, especially the outbuildings, was in terrible condition, but we saw the potential. The estate, built around a courtyard with towers and barns, dates back to the 17th century. It sits on a hill with stunning valley views. We transformed the large barn into four spacious rooms, each with a private terrace. Local artisans helped us renovate sustainably, supporting the community while preserving the estate’s authentic charm.
The way we discovered this place is extraordinary—a real serendipitous event. I’ve documented the full story in the blog, “An Unbelievable but True Story,” on our website.
Guests often describe it as stylish, comfortable, and luxurious—worthy of an interior design magazine feature. They feel instantly at home because every detail is thoughtfully considered. Each guest enjoys privacy but also has the option to connect in the communal spaces.
The three rooms in the barn are especially beautiful, thanks to their large covered terraces with calming views. Sitting there with a glass of wine is a dream—I never tire of it!
Our hilltop location offers breathtaking valley views amidst rolling countryside, forests, and meadows. The silence is profound and restorative, something many guests find rare and special. On clear nights, the stargazing is unforgettable.
Absolutely! We strive to be sustainable: - We separate waste according to local recycling standards. - Rainwater is collected for the garden. - Our vegetable garden provides fresh produce, and flowers are used for decoration. - We source food locally. - We’ve installed 24 solar panels. - We have EV charging stations. - Our pool uses UV filtration (minimal chlorine). - Eco-friendly detergent sheets are used in our professional washer. - Rooms feature refillable toiletry bottles made with natural ingredients by a French partner. - We clean with eco-friendly products from #zoschoon.
I previously ran a small B&B in the Netherlands, and Kees and I thought it would be wonderful to expand that experience together in a rural setting. Sharing this beautifully restored estate with guests and seeing them enjoy every corner brings us great joy.
Guests can immerse themselves in the idyllic French countryside. With rolling hills, forests, vineyards, and charming villages, it’s a feast for the senses. They can enjoy a fresh breakfast with pastries, visit castles, taste wine at local châteaux, or take day trips to attractions like caves or historic cities like Cahors and Toulouse.
Our guests appreciate the beauty, peace, and tranquility of this place. Waking up to birdsong, gazing at the valley with a cup of coffee in hand, and enjoying the combination of luxury and comfort—it’s a unique experience that stays with them.
We’ve received many heartfelt reviews, but one that stands out is: *"All your senses are stimulated here!"* Guests mention being captivated by the estate’s beauty, the sounds of nature, the scents of fresh hay and homemade meals, and the flavors of healthy breakfasts and fine wine.
We hope they remember that everything here, from the room designs to the meals, is created with care and love. We want them to feel that everything was perfectly catered to their needs.
We share a special app with our guests before arrival. It includes practical information and tips about local attractions, our favorite restaurants, and nearby markets. It’s a great way to start planning their visit and make the most of their time here.
