Can you briefly introduce yourself?
Nikos Psaltakis (1949), of Greek origin, and Lydia Zeeman (1960), of Dutch origin. We have two grown daughters and live in Koutouloufari, Crete, Greece.
Could you share more about yourselves?
The story of our small hotel, Villa Ippocampi, is interwoven with our love story. In the early 1980s, we met on Crete, and just as Nikos fell for Lydia, Lydia fell for the charm of Crete. Forty-five years later, we look back on a loving marriage, two daughters, and a successful boutique hotel that reflects our shared passion.
When and how did Villa Ippocampi come into your life?
Our accommodation started in the 1980s with just four apartments. It grew slowly but lovingly, evolving from expansion to perfection. We have always wanted to remain small-scale and personal, a principle that forms the foundation of our approach.
How was the renovation and decoration of Villa Ippocampi carried out?
The majority of the construction was carried out by Nikos himself, while Lydia was responsible for the interior design. Together, we struck a balance between authenticity and comfort. Nikos’ mother laid the foundation for our beautiful garden with her green fingers and love for nature.
What makes Villa Ippocampi special to you?
It has not only been our home but also a home to countless guests over the past 45 years. This connection with people makes it especially meaningful to us.
How would you describe the atmosphere and interior?
Greek hospitality, simple yet refined. The Cycladic style is evident throughout: terracotta floors, whitewashed walls, wooden furniture, and handcrafted details. Everything exudes tranquility and care.
What is your favorite spot on the property?
The swimming pool, the small café, and the surrounding garden form the heart of Villa Ippocampi. Here, you can enjoy the scent of citrus and olive trees, lavender, and bougainvillea while fully relaxing.
What makes the location unique?
Villa Ippocampi is perfectly located in a quiet area, ideal for those seeking peace, yet within reach of lively spots to explore the island.
