Meet the people behind the place - Filodivino
In this interview, Alberto, the founder of Filodivino, shares his inspiring journey from the textile industry to creating a unique winery and accommodation in the heart of Le Marche, Italy. Together with his wife Alida, he has crafted a magical place where guests can enjoy the beauty of nature, local wines, and a sustainable lifestyle. Discover their passion for hospitality, the renovation process, and the unforgettable experiences that Filodivino has to offer.
Can you tell us a bit about yourself and your family? Think of names, ages, and where you live. What are the names of your accommodations?
My name is Alberto, and I am the founder and owner of Filodivino. I worked in the textile industry for the first half of my life (hence the name "Filodivino" = thread of wine). At one point, I felt the need for a radical change: I sold the factory and, together with my wife Alida, searched for the right place to produce wine.
Would you like to tell us more about yourself? What are your interests, hobbies, work, family, and vacations?
I love the simplicity of things, the beauty of nature, my dogs, my family, and the coziness that wine brings.
When did this property come into your life, and what motivated you to make it a part of your life?
Initially, there was the dream of becoming winemakers and building a winery in San Marcello, between the mountains and the sea. We were driven by the desire to return to the land and the values it cherishes: health, goodness, and beauty. When we arrived at the place where Filodivino now stands, we understood that we shouldn’t keep this place just for ourselves. Beauty and happiness must be shared, and hospitality is the key ingredient of a land that welcomes and nourishes. Thus, the resort was born, just a stone's throw away from the winery. Filodivino was born from our love for design, style, wine, and harmony. This is visible in every detail!
Can you tell us more about the process of renovating and furnishing your accommodation?
The lodge has three spacious rooms and five smart suites, all recently renovated and elegantly furnished. The open spaces help guests find balance and well-being, providing a vacation where they can live in harmony with nature. All materials have been carefully chosen and reused or recycled whenever possible. The furniture is handmade and custom-made to create a unique and harmonious environment. The focus on raw materials, the green of olive leaves, and the wood of olive trees connects the countryside landscape with the interior of the guest accommodations. Even the linens are made from natural fibers, with cotton and linen weaving their stories together. Everything is designed to blend with nature without harming it.
What makes Filodivino personally special for you? Are there any special memories or moments that make it dear to your heart?
Every person who comes to Filodivino enters as a guest and leaves as a friend. Everyone who experiences Filodivino leaves behind an emotion that we will cherish until their return.
How would you describe the atmosphere and interior of your accommodation?
Imagine serenity and tranquility. A place that seems to stand still in time, immersed in the nature of Le Marche, surrounded by hills and vineyards, where one can rediscover harmony and well-being through the unique wines of the region. Strolling among vineyards, olive trees, ancient trees, and enchanting villages while enjoying a glass of Verdicchio or Lacrima: here at Filodivino, we love daydreaming.
Which part of your accommodation do you love the most, and why?
That’s a difficult question… I love the cellar, which has been created underground with total respect for the hills that embrace us. But the sunset from the panoramic terrace offers unforgettable emotions every day.
What makes the location of your accommodation unique and special?
You can visit Le Marche in any season, as the region offers the best in every season: art, culture, small villages, sea, mountains, wine, and food. You will experience it in a truly authentic way because Le Marche remains genuine. There are three UNESCO World Heritage sites: Urbino, Fabriano, and Pesaro, which are certainly worth a visit.
Ascoli Piceno with the famous Piazza del Popolo and its impressive architecture.
Gradara: a centuries-old history protected by medieval walls in a castle on top.
Frasassi Caves: an extraordinary cave system, one of the largest in Europe.
Loreto: one of the most important religious attractions in Europe, with the impressive basilica and fort complex, including the Holy House of the Virgin Mary.
Conero: stunning green and wild nature, crystal-clear seawater, and many pristine beaches.
Monti Sibillini: an impressive nature park full of natural treasures, perfect for nature lovers.
And much more… Elcito: the small Tibet of Le Marche, or Acqualagna & Furlo Pass: the truffle capital; a great gastronomic route… maybe you will discover it during your next visit to Filodivino!
Are there any sustainable or eco-friendly applications that you are proud of regarding your accommodation?
For us, the term ‘sustainability’ refers to three aspects: environmental, social, and economic. Filodivino is built 100% by local companies and craftsmen, in accordance with the Itaca protocol, which requires the use of recycled/reused materials from renewable sources and, where possible, locally produced. We utilize energy from renewable sources, such as solar panels and heat pumps. To reduce consumption, the entire building’s lighting is LED. We optimize waste management by promoting separate waste collection. We collect and reuse rainwater for irrigation. The cleaning and care products are certified organic. Guests receive free bicycles, and there are three charging stations for their electric vehicles. Our kitchen uses at least 80% locally produced, certified organic products and promotes the reduction of food waste. The cultivation of our vineyards and processing in the cellar are certified organic. We have built an Ipogea (underground) cellar to reduce the impact on the land. Single-use plastics, plastic plates, and cutlery have been eliminated, and we have installed systems to provide guests with filtered water, thereby also reducing transport pollution. Bathroom products are in practical refillable dispensers for shampoo, shower gel, and hand soap.
What motivated or inspired you to rent your property to guests?
It’s quite simple: such a magical place needed to be shared!
Can you paint a vivid picture of the overall experience someone can expect when staying at your accommodation?
I would describe it as a place of peace and relaxation, where one can rediscover themselves.
In what ways does your accommodation stand out from others? What unique features or characteristics make it a one-of-a-kind experience for guests?
Filodivino is ideally located between the Adriatic Sea and the Sibillini mountains. Our winery creates scents, flavors, and colors to share a piece of Le Marche's winemaking history. The resort offers seven unique rooms and suites with simple and clean designs, furnished by local craftsmen with recycled materials. The landscape of the vineyards and the furniture, dominated by the green of olive leaves, creates a peaceful and relaxing atmosphere. The experience of being among the vines in our swimming pool is unique and offers a refreshing refuge during warm summer days. The beautiful views of the surrounding hills make you feel completely immersed in nature and allow you to admire unforgettable sunsets while relaxing on the sun loungers, resting on a pebbled beach that slowly disappears into the water. In our veranda, we offer a kitchen based on simple, sincere promises: each season shows us the ingredients to choose. Each dish is made from the best local vegetables, fruits, livestock, and game. Everything is grown or raised according to strict criteria of sustainability, balance, and respect for the environment.
Can you share the best compliment you've received from a guest?
"Filodivino is so amazing; it’s illegal!"
Do you have any recommendations for guests to fully enjoy their holiday?
When we welcome guests to Filodivino, we invite them to discover this beautiful region, which has so much to offer for every taste. When guests arrive at Filodivino, we try to get to know them better and suggest activities or excursions based on their needs: a boat trip, a wine or olive oil tasting, a visit to a village, or a Vespa tour; you will truly be spoiled for choices.
