Meet the people behind the place: Le Clos de Martines by Sleek House

This conversation is an invitation into the world of Lucie, the founder and director of Le Clos des Martines. A young woman shaped by a family rooted in hospitality, she fell instantly in love with a historic Nomandic house that would become far more than a property. Nearly two years into the journey, she continues to treat every detail with deep respect for its past while creating a place that blends the comfort of a hotel with the privacy of a home. Les Clos des Martines reflects a thoughtful balance between contemporary elegance and authentic charm, born from Lucie’s desire to share this unique place. Just one hour from Paris, it offers guests a space to slow down, reconnect and enjoy time together.

What is the name of your accommodation?

Le Clos des Martines by Sleek House

Could you introduce yourself and share a bit about your life, such as your interests, hobbies, or background?

My name is Lucie, and I am the founder and director of Le Clos des Martines. The project was born the day I discovered the property. I instantly fell under the spell of this authentic Normandy house with such incredible potential. Inspiration came immediately.

I am a young and dynamic woman, always motivated and passionate about the art of welcoming and hosting. I grew up in a family with a deep sense of hospitality, and that mindset has guided me ever since. Restoring places with history, putting care into every detail, and imagining spaces that bring people together have naturally become both my profession and my passion.

I also practise a lot of sport, which inspires my energy and dynamism, and this mindset influences the experience we offer here. It is a place where wellness, movement and pleasure coexist naturally.

Welcoming our guests, making sure they feel expected, cared for and free to enjoy every moment is truly what drives me every day.

How did your property become part of your life? When did it happen, and what inspired or motivated you to take it on?

Le Clos des Martines has truly become the heartbeat of my life. My days are shaped around this place. I love spending time there, watching it evolve, and constantly imagining new ideas and new projects to make it grow. It is a space that stimulates me, inspires me and energises me every single day.

It has now been almost two years since I began this journey, and the project has been as demanding as it is exciting. For me, Le Clos des Martines is far more than a property. It is a unique place, a blend of the comfort of a hotel and the intimacy of a private home. It represents a new vision of hospitality, the concept of the maison hôtelière, which feels perfectly in tune with today’s expectations and in which I deeply believe.

Creating a space where guests feel at home while enjoying high end services, where they can share precious moments without sacrificing comfort or freedom, is what motivated me from the beginning. And it is what continues to inspire me every single day.

What was the process of creating your property like? Tell us about renovating, furnishing, or styling it.

Le Clos des Martines is truly a unique place. The house and its grounds underwent an impressive transformation with a year and a half of intensive renovation supported by many local craftsmen who put their heart into bringing the property back to life. Their expertise, dedication and high standards were remarkable, and we will never thank them enough.

Everything was restored or renovated with deep respect for the historic character of the house. The floors, the stained glass windows, the mouldings, the fireplaces, the traditional window fittings and all the original locks dating back to the eighteenth century were carefully preserved. The stone and half timbered façades, the main gate and the pillars were also restored with great respect. It is a property full of character, steeped in history.

For the furnishing and decoration, I designed the house around the five senses so that every guest feels a natural and emotional connection to the space.

• Sight through unique and sometimes surprising chandeliers and lighting fixtures
• Smell with the creation of our own signature fragrance
• Taste with our vegetable garden and carefully curated selection of wines
• Hearing thanks to high end connected speakers in all shared areas
• Touch through noble materials such as marble, leather and premium fabrics

Le Clos des Martines is not simply a renovated property. It is a home reinvented, designed to be lived in, felt and shared.

What makes your property truly special to you? Do you have any favorite spots, cherished memories, or personal touches that make it dear to your heart?

What makes Le Clos des Martines so special to me are all the emotions that come to life here. If there is one place that touches me more than any other, it is the SleekBar.

The SleekBar is our private speakeasy style lounge, a hidden space tucked away in a vaulted cellar beneath the house. It is designed for unforgettable evenings. It is intimate, soft and atmospheric, where music, dancing, karaoke and tastings blend naturally. You will find an elegant bar, comfortable armchairs, immersive lighting, a high end sound system, a wine cellar and an ambiance that adapts to the energy of the moment, sometimes festive, sometimes cosy, always warm.

The SleekBar is the perfect reflection of Le Clos des Martines. It is elegant yet vibrant, convivial and free spirited, created to bring people together and to make the most of time shared. To me, it is the festive soul of the house, a signature space that I never tire of seeing come to life with our guests.

How would you describe the atmosphere and interior of your property?

The atmosphere at Le Clos des Martines is contemporary, authentic and deeply soothing.

The interior reflects the perfect balance between the character of a historic home and the comfort of modern living. Noble materials, thoughtful lighting, bespoke furniture and design pieces create a refined and harmonious ambiance. The house retains the soul of a period property, with its stained glass windows, fireplaces, mouldings, stone walls and timeless charm, while being elevated by a bold modern touch and meticulous attention to detail.

Every room has been designed to be lived in and shared. There are generous social spaces, a bright and spacious kitchen, warm living rooms for evenings by the fireplace, a foosball table, quiet corners for reading, bedrooms with premium bedding and signature spaces such as the SleekBar, the padel court and the garden where time seems to stand still.

The atmosphere of Le Clos des Martines can be summed up in three words. It is elegant, authentic and inspiring. A high end place, thoughtfully designed to create lasting memories.

Are there any sustainable or eco-friendly applications associated with your property that you are proud of?

Sustainability plays an important role at Le Clos des Martines, and it is something I am truly proud of. We want to offer a high end experience while keeping our environmental impact as responsible as possible.

We have installed electric charging stations for our guests, making it convenient for those travelling with electric vehicles. Filtered water fountains are available throughout the property to reduce the use of plastic bottles, and a rigorous waste sorting system is implemented in the house. Part of our water is also collected and reused, particularly for outdoor areas.

We are strongly committed to supporting local production. I work exclusively with local producers and partners for food, beverages and many of the services offered on site. Whenever possible, everything is made in France, from furniture to decorative objects, to support local craftsmanship and the regional economy.

These commitments are not marketing arguments but genuine convictions. We aim to offer an exceptional stay while respecting the land, the environment and the people who contribute to it.

What motivated or inspired you to rent your property to guests?

What motivated me to rent the property to travellers was the desire to share this unique place. Le Clos des Martines is ideally located just one hour from Paris and very close to Giverny, making it the perfect destination to discover the region and enjoy a real escape without going far.

Beyond the location, the house itself tells a story. It is a traditional Norman home surrounded by nature, renovated with local materials and local craftsmen. Staying here means experiencing a true French lifestyle immersion with authenticity, gastronomy, heritage, well being and the joy of being together.

The house and its outdoor spaces were renovated with one clear intention in mind. The goal was to welcome people and make them happy. Every space has been designed to bring people together, to feel good and to share simple yet precious moments, whether with family, friends or colleagues.

Renting the property quickly became an obvious choice, because a place like this only takes on its full meaning when it is alive, when it resonates with laughter, conversations, reunions and the memories people create together.

What can guests expect when staying at your accommodation? Share the experience, the highlights, and perhaps the best compliment you have received from past guests.

If I could give one piece of advice to make their stay truly unforgettable, it would be to enjoy it fully. Organise a festive dinner, experience the SleekBar, treat yourself to a massage, play a padel match at sunrise, explore the countryside and local hidden gems by electric bike, read by the fireplace, open a great bottle of wine at the end of the day. Le Clos des Martines is designed to be lived in.
