Meet the people behind the place Casa Iccha
Tucked away at the edge of the Itria Valley, surrounded by ancient olive trees, lies Casa Iccha – a serene hideaway created by Peter and Felice Rasing. What began as a shared love for Italy grew into a dream home where simplicity and luxury blend effortlessly. With an eye for detail and deep respect for the surroundings, they built a retreat that feels like an ode to Southern Italian living. Casa Iccha breathes peace, style, and connection. In this interview, they share their inspiration, the building journey, and their life among the olive trees.
Before we dive into the details, could you briefly introduce yourselves?
Peter Rasing (43), Felice Rasing (43), and our three sons Finn (10), Hugo (8), and Juuls (6). After many years in Amsterdam, we now live in Het Gooi.
We’d love to share more about you as individuals with our guests. Would you like to tell us a bit more about yourselves?
We love to travel and share a deep passion for Italy. Italy has truly been the red thread throughout our lives. We met in Rome and got married in Tuscany. Since then, we’ve returned many times with the children for holidays. We both have busy jobs in the Randstad area and spend much of our time with our three boys, staying active and taking as many beautiful trips as possible together. Felice loves cooking, and Peter is an avid kitesurfer.
When and how did this property come into your lives, and what inspired you to make it a part of your journey?
Italy has been a constant in our lives. It’s where we met long ago and where we got married. It’s such a beautiful, welcoming country where everything feels just right: the climate, the people, the food and wine, and so much more. We’ve explored many parts of the country, and six years ago we visited Puglia. We immediately fell in love. The architecture here is unlike anywhere else in Italy, and it spoke to us. On top of that, both coasts are lined with beaches, so you get the best of both worlds – charming inland villages and the sea. It was perfect. We initially wanted to buy an existing home, but quickly realized that renovations would be extensive. So we thought: why not build something entirely new, just the way we want it?
Can you tell us more about the renovation and design process?
We started looking for a plot of land, preferably with ancient olive trees and as remote as possible, to find peace away from the hectic life back in the Randstad. After six months, we found our spot – at the end of a quiet dead-end lane, just ten minutes from the lovely towns of Ostuni and Ceglie Messapica, yet completely secluded among 86 large olive trees. That’s where our adventure began.
We then began sketching ideas with an architect, and we were very involved in this process – we had a clear vision. Peter had always wanted to become an architect and finally had the chance to pour his passion into something tangible. Getting the permits took six months, and then construction began. From start to finish, the build took 18 months. The home was completed in the summer of 2024, and we could finally start decorating.
Felice, who has a passion for styling and interior design, had already spent over a year carefully sourcing the perfect furniture and decor to bring a Mediterranean holiday vibe into the house.
What makes this property truly special to you? Are there any memories or details that make it particularly dear to your hearts?
Driving down the little road to Casa Iccha instantly brings us a sense of calm. You’re surrounded by olive trees and greenery – nothing else. Every corner was thought through and designed by us, which makes it truly special. It’s our personal vision brought to life. Felice had always dreamed of having an inner courtyard filled with citrus and lemon trees, and now it’s there.
On the property stands an ancient trullo – a UNESCO heritage site. On the trullo, the initials "PF 23" were engraved. We knew right away this place was meant for us: PF stands for Peter and Felice, and we met on May 23rd. There’s no such thing as coincidence.
How would you describe the atmosphere and interior style of your home?
A Mediterranean beach vibe. White and beige tones form the base, complemented by natural materials like wood.
Which part of your property do you love most, and why?
We absolutely love the gazebo – our covered outdoor kitchen and dining area by the pool. We spend most of our days here. Breakfasts around the big table, sitting at the bar overlooking the pool while the kids swim, and ending the day with a sundowner and BBQ. What more do you need? During summer, we spend most of our time outdoors.
What makes the location of your property so unique and special?
Casa Iccha is located in the heart of the Itria Valley, near the charming white town of Ostuni. There’s so much to do nearby – from cultural sights to stunning beaches – yet when you’re at the house or by the pool, it’s completely serene. The perfect balance. Our garden is filled with olive, fruit, and nut trees.
Are there any sustainable or eco-friendly features you’re especially proud of?
Our house is (almost) entirely self-sufficient. We had our own well drilled and installed solar panels with a home battery. All appliances run on this system. You can’t get more sustainable than that.
What inspired you to open your home to guests?
We want others to feel what we feel here – complete luxury in the heart of the countryside, in one of Italy’s most beautiful regions. A place to truly unwind and recharge.
Can you describe the kind of experience guests can expect during their stay?
Pure luxury and relaxation amidst olive, fruit, and nut trees – surrounded by nature, yet in the heart of Puglia.
How does your property stand out from others? What makes a stay truly unforgettable?
Casa Iccha is built entirely in the style of traditional Ostuni homes, but with all the comfort and luxury you want while on holiday. A beautiful pool with a built-in seating area, multiple shaded outdoor spaces and kitchens, and cozy corners to unwind. There’s also a jeu de boules court and a swing.
Inside, comfort was a top priority: a fully equipped luxury kitchen, stylish bathrooms, beautiful bedrooms with quality linens and beds. Air conditioning is available in every room to ensure cool nights. Every detail has been thought through.
What is the most memorable compliment you’ve received from a guest?
"Wow, this is truly one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever been. It’s unreal – everything just feels right. I can’t explain it, but the atmosphere is perfect. I don’t want to leave."
What do you hope guests will take away from their stay at your property?
Long summer evenings spent truly enjoying time together. Deep conversations over good wine on one of our lovely outdoor terraces.
Do you have any recommendations for guests to make the most of their stay?
Don’t miss the Ionian coast with its stunning white sand beaches – our favorite is Togo Bay! And make sure to visit Ceglie Messapica. It’s lovely to stroll through in the early evening for an aperitivo or a delicious meal after a relaxing day by the pool.
