Cantina Produttori di Manduria

A visit to Manduria's historic cooperative is an excellent introduction to the region's most famous wine. Founded in 1932, Cantina Produttori di Manduria has played an important role in bringing Primitivo di Manduria to a wider audience. Visitors can explore the Museo della Civiltà del Vino Primitivo before tasting a selection of the winery's best-known labels, including Elegia and Lirica.

Agricola Felline

Long before Puglia became a recognised wine destination, Gregory Perrucci was advocating for the preservation of Salento's indigenous grape varieties. Through Agricola Felline and the Accademia dei Racemi initiative, he helped revive interest in local viticulture and traditional grapes.

Tastings take place at Spazio Primitivo in Manduria, a wine-focused cultural space dedicated to tastings, events, and the region's wine heritage. It is one of the most interesting places to learn about the story of Primitivo and its place within Puglia's wider wine culture.

Cantine San Marzano

Located in the village of San Marzano di San Giuseppe, this renowned cooperative brings together the work of many local growers. Despite its size, the winery has built a reputation for producing wines that remain closely connected to their origins.

Its best-known label is Sessantanni, made from old Primitivo vines that are at least 60 years old and trained in the traditional alberello style. A visit here offers insight into how tradition and modern winemaking techniques can successfully coexist.

Morella

Just outside Manduria, Morella offers a more personal winery experience. Founded by Australian winemaker Lisa Gilbee and her husband Gaetano Morella, the estate focuses on old-vine Primitivo and careful, low-intervention winemaking.

The wines are elegant and expressive, reflecting the character of the local terroir. A tasting here often feels less formal and more conversational, making it a memorable way to conclude a wine-focused journey through the region.

Late spring and early autumn are ideal times for wine tasting in Puglia, when temperatures are pleasant, and vineyard life is at its most vibrant. Most wineries welcome visitors by reservation only, particularly the smaller estates.
