Meet the people behind the place - Villa Pedra

Located in Cotas, Soure, Portugal, this unique holiday retreat is a project of Manuel Casal that combines the beauty of nature with a deep appreciation for traditional Portuguese heritage. Read on to discover what makes Villa Pedra so special.

Before we dive into the details, could you briefly introduce yourself and share the name of your accommodation?

My name is Manuel Casal, and my accommodation is Villa Pedra Natural Houses, located in Cotas, Soure, Portugal.

We would love to share some information about you as an individual with our customers. Would you like to tell us more about yourself?

I spend a lot of time in the city, where I run a clothing store (Stivali) in Lisbon. But when I need to relax, I always return to Villa Pedra, my sanctuary in nature. It is the perfect place to leave the hustle and bustle of the city behind.

When and how did the accommodation come into your life, and what motivated you to make it a part of your life?

In 2009, Villa Pedra began as a private project, stemming from the desire to change habits and get closer to nature. What started as a personal initiative grew into something bigger due to the enthusiasm of bringing the project to life.

Can you tell us more about the process of renovating and furnishing your accommodation?

Villa Pedra Natural Houses was created by restoring the old Aldeia de Cima, a village that had been abandoned for 70 years. We wanted to preserve the original architecture, with limestone blocks covered in ochre lime, while respecting the culture and ecological value of the site. Each house is named after a tree or aromatic herb, such as rosemary, jasmine, or lemon. Each house has its own personality, with unique design elements, and is equipped with modern conveniences such as central heating and internet.

What makes your accommodation truly special for you? Are there special memories or moments that make it extra dear to you?

Villa Pedra offers space, peace, safety, and comfort. It is a return to the essence of Portuguese life, which makes it so special for me. It reminds us of the values of authenticity and well-being that are often lost in modern life.

Can you provide a vivid description of the overall experience that guests can expect during their stay at your accommodation?

Each house in Villa Pedra has its own identity. It is more than a holiday home; it is an authentic village where guests can experience Portuguese culture. Every detail is thoughtfully designed, and we strive to provide impeccable service, ensuring guests have an unforgettable time. Expect a personal and warm welcome, and enjoy the comfort and tranquility that this place offers.

In what ways does your accommodation stand out from others? What unique features make it an unforgettable experience for guests?

At Villa Pedra, you don't have to wake up early for breakfast. Every morning around 8:30 AM, fresh bread and cake are placed at your door, along with traditional delicacies such as Rabaçal cheese and jam. This personal approach and attention to detail set Villa Pedra apart from other accommodations.

What is the best compliment you have received from a guest?

"Villa Natural Houses is a hidden gem of Portugal. The combination of modern design and respect for the natural environment is impressive. Picking fruit from the tree, walking through hills filled with wild lavender and thyme, and the coolness in the houses thanks to the smart design are unforgettable. We can't wait to return." Do you have recommendations for guests to make the most of their vacation?

Villa Pedra is surrounded by nature. We recommend visiting the Casmilo caves, just 15 minutes away, or the river beach Fragas de São Simão. For a cultural experience, the historic city of Coimbra, just 35 minutes away, is a must-see.
