In 2020, a traveling couple bought Casa Gonzales in Jávea as a retreat during the pandemic. This charming vacation home, renovated in Ibiza style, offers a stunning view of the sea and Portitxol. The interior exudes elegance and comfort, making it a second home. As developers, they decided to share their villa, and now guests enjoy a warm welcome and a serene yet central location.
My husband, Stefan, and I bought Casa Gonzales in 2020. As a travel agent, I was going stir-crazy sitting at home during the pandemic. I really felt like we might never get out of Europe again. The idea of buying a vacation home in Spain took root. A few months later, we fell head over heels for Casa Gonzales. Our sons, aged 17 and 20, are also completely enamored with Jávea. Since then, we've bought a few more houses and apartments, giving us a good excuse to visit Jávea as often as possible.
My husband and I are avid travelers. I turned my hobby into my profession and have been working as an independent travel designer for many years. For the best custom travel experiences, you’ve come to the right place. I have a great love for South Africa and, of course, for Spain. A few years ago, we sold our businesses and since then, we’ve also been active as developers in Belgium and Spain.
As I mentioned, I was really anxious sitting at home during the pandemic. In the past, we always said we didn’t want a house abroad because the world has so much to offer. Now, we’re so happy with our "home away from home." And having a vacation home doesn’t prevent us from continuing to explore the rest of the world.
We bought Casa Gonzales when it had just been renovated. However, we have since acquired a few projects where renovations are now starting. Luckily, when we bought Casa Gonzales, we immediately connected with the right people, so we now have a reliable team to oversee the work for us.
My husband and I had seen at least 50 houses by the time we arrived at Casa Gonzales. When the garden gate opened, we were immediately enchanted by the stunning view. We toured the newly renovated house and ended our tour on the terrace. We looked at the view and then at each other, and we knew right away: this is the house we were looking for. That same day, the papers were signed. In Jávea, the real estate market was (and still is) hot. Once you’ve found THE property, you can’t hesitate.
The house is completely renovated in Ibiza style: white, rounded walls, mortex, and black and wooden details. The beds are covered with crisp white linens, and we have lovely towels, beach towels, and toiletries from Marie Stella Maris.
I still get really happy when I open the garden gate. I also enjoy sitting in the cozy nook on the terrace with a glass of wine and enjoying the view.
In one word: the view. You can see not only the sea but also the island of Portitxol. In front of the house is a green zone where building is not allowed, so we look out over the pine trees.
Since we can’t be in Spain all the time, we thought it would be a waste to leave the house empty. Reading the guest book makes me happy to see that we can share our happy place with so many guests.
It starts with a particularly warm welcome from our host Jonathan. He greets our guests with the key and provides a brief tour. We also provide an extensive welcome package with wine/cava, olives, cookies, and fresh fruit. The first drinks are already in the fridge. Most guests start their vacation with an aperitif on the terrace, enjoying the incredible view. All basic necessities (toilet paper, paper towels, spices, olive oil, Nespresso with cups, dishwasher tablets, laundry detergent, toiletries, etc.) are provided, so you don’t have to rush to the supermarket.
Jonathan, our house manager, is a gem. He embodies hospitality. He is available not only during check-in but throughout the entire stay. Renting bikes, booking boats, restaurant tips (which are also in a booklet in the house),... He’s ready for everything. Especially the location makes Casa Gonzales a unique villa. You completely relax here while being just 10 minutes away from the hustle and bustle.
The son of one of our guests wrote: ‘It was the best vacation ever.’ And a Canadian lady who stayed there alone for a month wrote that it was the best place on earth to close a difficult period in her life.
There is a booklet in the house with all our tips. Where to find the best beaches, where to eat, the best beach bars, and all the beautiful viewpoints in Jávea.
