Casa Maria Rosa is a unique retreat in Puglia, lovingly crafted by Ruben and Sarah, who poured their passion for design and adventure into every corner. Nestled near Oria, this warm and authentic home welcomes guests to experience the charm of Italian life. With a pool, open kitchen, and hand-picked furnishings, it’s the perfect setting for both relaxation and exploration.
We are Ruben Vandenberghe and Sarah Wagner, both 40 years old, and proud parents of Lucía (5 years) and Raffa (2.5 years).
Ruben has worked in retail for 15 years and is now active in interior and exhibition stand design. His work has given him tons of inspiration for Casa Maria Rosa. Besides his passion for design, he enjoys rock climbing and biking. Sarah is a freelance art director and graphic designer who has explored the world as a digital nomad. Art, sculpture, and photography are in her blood—along with a fascination for lighting design!
During the COVID pandemic, some friends of ours found this magical piece of land in Oria. We instantly fell in love and decided to build our dream place. That’s how our adventure began!
From the very beginning, this place just felt right. The atmosphere, the views, the potential—it was as if it was meant for us. We wanted to create a house where our love for design could blend with our vision of the perfect holiday retreat.
There was a small, old farmhouse on the land. We demolished almost everything except the living room—the soul of the house. From there, we designed everything ourselves, without an architect. Together with our construction team, we made our dream home a reality. And the interior? It’s a curated collection of unique flea market finds, each with its own character and story.
It’s the place where we can truly recharge and enjoy life’s small moments. Picking the first figs from the garden or taking that first plunge in the pool after a long workday—those moments feel like magic. The house just feels “right” in every detail and radiates the harmony we were seeking.
Warm, inviting, and full of character! We paid a lot of attention to the flow between indoor and outdoor spaces. It’s compact and functional, yet relaxed and authentic in feel.
Without a doubt, the terrace and the open kitchen! They flow seamlessly into each other, letting us enjoy a glass of prosecco in the shade while the kids have fun in the pool.
Casa Maria Rosa is located in the heart of Puglia, an ideal base to explore the region. Just 24 minutes from the airport and near Oria, which was recently named the most beautiful village in Southern Italy! The surroundings and views here are truly breathtaking.
Absolutely! We deliberately used local materials to blend the house into its natural surroundings. Casa Maria Rosa truly feels like a part of the landscape.
It’s wonderful to let others enjoy the unique atmosphere we’ve created here. When guests feel the same peace and beauty that we do, it’s the greatest compliment. Plus, renting it out keeps the house lively and brings new people with new stories each time.
The ultimate “dolce far niente” experience! As soon as you arrive, it feels like the rest of the world pauses for a moment. You can completely unwind, slow down, and enjoy the beauty around you. The house quickly feels like a warm cocoon.
Casa Maria Rosa is 100% our own design and vision. Everything has been carefully selected, and every painting on the wall was created by us. The house exudes an authentic atmosphere—you can feel that it was built with love and attention to detail.
A guest once said that it felt like they had found a second home. The care and detail throughout the house gave them that feeling, and that compliment still touches us deeply.
We hope they leave with a sense of peace and the magic of this place. Whether it’s through quality time with family, the stunning surroundings, or just the feeling of really getting away—if they leave with beautiful memories, then we’ve achieved our goal.
Take the time to truly recharge! Enjoy the house, go for a swim, and explore the region. Savor the local cuisine, visit vintage markets, and buy fresh ingredients for a cozy meal in the open kitchen. And above all: leave space for spontaneous moments—because those are what make a holiday unforgettable!
