In the sun-drenched heart of Puglia, nestled among silver-green olive groves and just a stone’s throw from a lively town, lies a house built not just with hands, but with heart and memory. Casa Teresa Puglia is no ordinary holiday retreat — it is a haven of deep tranquillity, aesthetic simplicity, and quiet luxury. Here, guests are welcomed by Jean-Yves and his partner Kurt, two passionate travellers who, after years of searching, found their dream sanctuary on Italian soil.
Could you briefly introduce yourself?
I’m Jean-Yves, a bon vivant who fell head over heels for this beautiful region. Although I had dreamed about it for some time, I never truly believed I would one day own something here. My partner is Kurt — we’ve been together for 27 years. After my mother passed away, we felt it was time for a new project — something meaningful.
Can you tell us a little more about yourself?
We travel a lot, but never really found a place that felt entirely “us.” There was always something missing. Because we both work hard, we deeply value peace during our holidays, yet we also enjoy having a bit of atmosphere and liveliness in the evenings.
How did the property come into your life, and why did it become so important to you?
After the loss of my parents, I felt the need to start a project — a place that could be a tribute to my mother, but also a space where I could find peace, far from the noise of the world. That’s how our dream house was born, proudly carrying her name.
Can you tell us more about the renovation and decorating process?
We never imagined the process would be so long and challenging. Southern Italy... it’s a whole experience in itself! We had high hopes, but the Southern mentality and bureaucracy were not to be underestimated. After three years of intense renovations, we finally furnished everything ourselves, using wooden pieces — a blend of reclaimed materials and Italian charm.
What makes your accommodation truly special to you? Are there any memories that make it even more meaningful?
The entire journey was a real adventure — getting quotes, convincing workers to show up... In southern Italy, they say: “They won’t come for just three drops of rain.” They only work in the mornings and don’t always understand your vision. Patience is key — and that makes it all the more precious.
How would you describe the atmosphere and interior?
It has the charm of a warm Italian nonna style. The holiday feeling is ever-present: peacefully tucked away among olive trees, yet only six minutes from town. For us — and by now, for many others — it has become a true dream spot.
Which part of your accommodation is your personal favourite, and why?
I love to cook, especially on holiday. Italy has so many wonderful ingredients. I always dreamed of having an outdoor kitchen, and we’re proud to have built one ourselves. The pool, which resembles a traditional water basin, is also something quite special.
What makes the location of your property unique?
The road that leads to the house winds through olive trees and gives you that feeling of complete seclusion. And yet, you're so close to a vibrant town full of great restaurants and charming boutiques.
Are there any sustainable or eco-friendly aspects you’re proud of?
Everything was built using reclaimed and second-hand materials. It gives the place character — and makes it more sustainable, too.
What inspired you to start hosting guests?
We hope that everyone who stays here can feel the same serenity we do. A place to reconnect with yourself. A true slow living retreat, without pretension, yet filled with beauty. Luxury in simplicity.
How would you describe the guest experience at Casa Teresa?
Back to basics. Back to the essence of life. Surrounded by nature, it’s the perfect romantic hideaway.
In what ways does your accommodation stand out? What makes it unforgettable?
There are many beautiful holiday homes with nice styling, but at Casa Teresa, it’s the simplicity — the maternal warmth — that makes it unique. For me, it’s here and nowhere else.
What is the nicest compliment you've received from a guest?
“One morning I woke up and just couldn’t stop admiring your beautiful decor. We had breakfast side by side, enjoying that stunning view.”
What do you hope guests will take away from their stay?
A sense of love and calm. 100% slow living and deep enjoyment.
Any recommendations for guests to make the most of their stay?
Treat the house as if it were your own. Please feel completely at home — it makes all the difference.
