Meet the people behind the place: Trullo Fiorone

For Hilde, discovering Trullo Fiorone marked the beginning of a new chapter where design, nature and Italian culture come together. After an extensive renovation, she transformed the centuries-old trullo into a serene hideaway surrounded by olive trees. Her story reflects the essence of the home itself: authentic, soulful and made for unforgettable moments.

What is the name of your accommodation?

Trullo Fiorone

Could you introduce yourself and share a bit about your life, such as your interests, hobbies, or background?

My name is Hilde, and I am the proud owner of this trullo. In daily life, I work as a freelance designer in Amsterdam. After a long search and an intensive renovation, I now love enjoying the peace and outdoor lifestyle here, together with family and friends. I really enjoy cooking, and this place lends itself perfectly to that: the large pizza oven and the fantastic products you can find everywhere in Puglia make cooking here a true pleasure.

How did your property become part of your life? When did it happen, and what inspired or motivated you to take it on?

During a search throughout Italy, I ended up in Puglia, and I was immediately sold. Seven years ago, after many viewings, I finally bought this trullo. Alongside my life in Amsterdam, I try to spend more and more time in Puglia. I love the relaxed lifestyle, the delicious food, the warmth of the people and the pleasant climate.

What was the process of creating your property like? Tell us about renovating, furnishing, or styling it.

The trullo has been completely renovated, a process that took several years. Due to Covid, the renovation was delayed, but together with local craftsmen we were ultimately able to create something truly beautiful. I deliberately chose local materials to maintain the authentic atmosphere, while paying a lot of attention to comfort: good beds, a pleasant shower, a fully equipped kitchen, fast wifi and of course the pizza oven. The renovation was completed four years ago, but every year I still add improvements. I am incredibly happy with the result and enjoy it again every time I return.

What makes your property truly special to you? Do you have any favorite spots, cherished memories, or personal touches that make it dear to your heart?

For me, it’s mainly the peaceful location, in the middle of an olive grove with olive, almond and fruit trees. The comfort of the trullo, the wonderful pool, and the ability to live outdoors make you relax immediately. Within fifteen minutes you can be in lively Ostuni or Ceglie Messapica, or at one of the many beaches. I don’t have just one favourite spot; the various terraces where you drink your morning coffee or enjoy dinner in the evening make the stay extra special.

How would you describe the atmosphere and interior of your property?

The atmosphere is authentic Puglia, combined with modern comfort. Thanks to the thick walls, the trullo stays pleasantly cool even in the middle of summer.

Are there any sustainable or eco-friendly applications associated with your property that you are proud of?

We use solar panels to heat the water. In addition, as many local materials as possible were used. The trullo is well insulated and, thanks to the thick walls, stays cool inside, reducing the need for air conditioning in the summer.

What motivated or inspired you to rent your property to guests?

I want people to experience the same feeling I have when I am in the trullo: time to relax, enjoy Southern Italian life, and create beautiful memories.

What can guests expect when staying at your accommodation? Share the experience, the highlights, and perhaps the best compliment you’ve received from past guests.

Upon arrival, guests are warmly welcomed with local wine and Pugliese delicacies. The trullo combines authentic charm with modern luxury. Outside you’ll find a large pool, several covered terraces and of course the traditional pizza oven. Children thoroughly enjoy the spacious garden, the pool and sleeping in the cosy alcoves of the trullo. Thanks to the central location, it’s easy to explore the region while experiencing complete peace and privacy on the property. Whether you take a walk through nearby villages, go to the beach or dine under the stars in the evening, everything contributes to an unforgettable experience. One of the nicest compliments I ever received was that guests “felt immediately at home and never wanted to leave”.

What do you hope guests will take away from their stay, and do you have any special tips or recommendations to make their holiday unforgettable?

I hope guests return home relaxed, with beautiful memories. Whether it’s the food, the warmth of the region or the unique charm of the trullo — I hope they felt at home here and would love to return.
To make their stay unforgettable, guests might begin the day quietly with a coffee on the terrace, then visit a local market and cook with fresh produce in the outdoor kitchen. They can enjoy dinner in Ceglie Messapica, a village full of wonderful restaurants, or explore the Valle d’Itria with its countless trulli. Time at the beaches and nature reserves such as Torre Guaceto and Torre Pozzelle is always rewarding, as is a wine tasting to discover the flavours of Puglia. Ending the day with a homemade pizza from the oven or a glass of wine by the pool under the stars makes the experience complete.
